Β2Β e-commerce in China last year reached 1,250 billion yuan (US$168.9 billion), an increase of 25.5 percent compared to 2006. These are the findings of a study carried out by the China Internet Data Center (CIDC). More than 300 web sites and nearly 200 companies took part in the Netguide 2008 survey and a total of 50,786 interviews were conducted throughout China.

According to the CDIC study, Alibaba.com, which recently floated on the Hong Kong stock market, is the outright leader in e-commerce, with a market share of nearly 70 percent. Alibaba.com is one of China's fastest-growing Internet companies. The number of registered users rose to 24.6 million in 2007, up from 6 million in 2004, while as of June 2007 the number of paying subscribers was 255,000, up from 77,000 in 2004.

Alibaba.com has the world's largest online supplier base. Its initial public offering (IPO) last November raised $1.5 billion dollars, making it the largest Internet IPO since Google's in 2004. Other e-commerce portals with substantial market shares in the CIDC ranking are netsun.com, globalsources.com, cn.made-in-china.com and hc360.com. Netguide 2008 forecasts that the volume of e-commerce between Chinese companies will grow to more than 1,620 billion yuan (US$218.9 billion) in 2008 and 2,130 billion yuan (US$287.8 billion) in 2009
