Subscription Management and Charging for Value Added Services in UMTS by M. Koutsopoulou, C. Farmakis and E. Gazis [167 Kb]
The key idea is to introduce a model, which is capable of handling efficiently subscription management, as well as charging, billing and accounting for value added services that are provided either by the network provider or third trusted parties. We propose a flexible business model inline with the arising requirements for openness and dynamic subscription and introduce an integrated system that employs a flexible charging scheme for each type of service usage (transport and value added), so that the user will receive only one itemised bill for all services.

M-Commerce: Revolution + Inertia = Evolution by Phillip Gordon and Judith Gebauer, Haas School of Business, Berkeley [42 Kb]
Mcommerce has led to expectations of revolutionary changes in business and markets. Similar to developments in the past, however, the radical impacts will probably be limited, while many times Mcommerce will lead to more gradual changes. Furthermore, significant stumbling blocks will slow the rate of radical or limited change.

Wi-Fi: It’s everywhere – at home, at the office, on the street by Alcatel [63 Kb]
A versatile technology, Wi-Fi (short for wireless fidelity) frees the end-user from the rats' nets of wires and connectors that typically encumber computer installations at home and at the office, while also providing a wire -free broadband Internet connection in public locations. For the user, it's easy: to surf the Net in p ublic hotspots, the user turns on his own Wi-Fi-enabled laptop or PDA, types in his access code – and he's up and running instantly, accessing the Internet without a wire in sight. Payment is easy, too: the user can either buy a prepaid card or subscribe to the service and be automatically authenticated when he arrives in the hotspot.

Enabling the Future of Wi-Fi® Public Access by Wi-Fi Alliance [235 Kb]
Wireless networks have moved beyond homes and offices. Mobile professionals who demand access to data have spawned the creation of public access “hotspots” that provide wireless access in locations as diverse as coffee shops, airports, hotels and telephone booths. Their number is growing rapidly and is projected that by 2007 hotspots will number 530,000 in the United States, almost 800,000 in Europe and more than a million in Asia.

Securing Wi-Fi Wireless Networks with Today’s Technologies by Wi-Fi Alliance [141 Kb]
Over the past few years, the popularity of Wi-Fi networking has grown spectacularly. “Going wireless” is becoming mainstream and the costs of implementing Wi-Fi have dropped dramatically. But just as the popularity of Wi-Fi is growing, so are the well-documented security concerns of wireless networks. Wi-Fi’s native security mechanism, WEP, while still useful for home networking and other light security needs, was proven insufficient for enterprise class networking. Some corporate networks have overcome the problems posed by WEP by deploying complementary technologies to strengthen Wi-Fi’s native security to a level suitable for enterprise class protection.
